"A History"
A little bit about the founder of the Sawlog Bulletin magazine; A native of Northern New Hampshire, Ralph J. Doolan's background was in the forest industry. In the 60's he worked for Timberland, Inc. located in Ashland, Maine and was literally one of the first people to sell a skidder in the US. In the 70's he worked for Prentice as a production manager in Zebulon NC, in the 80's Ralph was instrumental in introducing the Rotobec grapple to the U.S. He has a track record for introducing concepts to loggers to make their life easier. In 1989 the Sawlog Bulletin was founded by Ralph J. Doolan.
The original Sawlog Bulletin was created by compiling log price data from various sawmills along the Connecticut River valley here in New Hampshire. The information was stapled together and distributed to dozens of loyal subscribers in, mostly, NH and VT. The loggers liked the concept of compiling all of this log marketing information into one publication. Soon the word grew about the Sawlog Bulletin and Ralph incorporated log buyers from Vermont, Maine, Southern New England and finally New York and Pennsylvania. Currently the magazine has hundreds of log buyers and thousands of subscribers as well as dozens of faithful advertisers.
